If there is anything my kids love, it's a good snack. If there's anything that I love, it's an easy snack. We buy granola bars, goldfish, gummies, apples, bananas, grapes, etc., etc., etc. until we're blue in the face, and we still run out in three days or less. And it can get very expensive. And that's before we're even paying for meals at the grocery store!
I wanted to make the kids a quick and easy snack, something different than the same old snacks we buy again and again. They all love a little chocolate and could eat marshmallows all day long, so I took the classic s'mores, and made them into a yummy snack mix!
It's hardly even a recipe. You need a bag (or two :)) of milk chocolate chips, a bag of mini marshmallows, and a box of Golden Grahams cereal. Throw them all in a big bowl, mix well, and you're good to go!
We keep one of those Rubbermaid triple drawer containers in the pantry for the kids, top drawer for snacks, middle drawer for quick lunch and dinner options, and the bottom drawer for quick and easy breakfasts. It's been great for the kids and they love running to the pantry (or sneaking) to get their own snacks in the afternoons. So instead of keeping the snack mix in the big bowl, I took Ziploc snack bags, and divided it up equally among about 20 bags! It only cost about $5 to make, and so each snack only cost about 25 cents! Not too shabby, and it was a big hit with the kiddos. Maybe with the big kids too. :)
So if you need a new snack, for your kids or just for yourself, try it out!
