Spring Style Week: Buy Now, Wear Later!

Welcome back to Spring Style Week!  Check out Monday and Tuesday's posts here and here!

With Spring right around the corner, I am dying over all the dresses, short sleeves, and lightweight fabrics I've been seeing in stores and online.  But, with a high today of 43, it may be a bit before I'm rocking bare legs and sandals.  But is that going to stop me from shopping for spring looks?  No way!  There are many spring trends that can be worn now during the chilly days, and also worn when the warmer weather (finally) graces us with it's presence, with just some switching up of the complimenting pieces.  I'll show you three pieces below, that can be worn now and also worn later!

A chiffon high-low skirt is surprisingly a great transitional piece.  It can be layered with thick tights and a belted draped cardigan for now, and then worn with a lightweight tank tucked in and mile high wedges for when the weather is warmer.  I like heels or wedges with high-low skirts, since the longer hem of the skirt can creep pretty low, and a flat may make you look squat, where a heel will emphasize the long leg line.

I love this delicate lightweight blouse, and especially in the bright watermelon color!  It screams polka dots to me, and that's how I styled it for now and later.  For now, I pair it with a navy polka dot cardi, navy cigarette pants that hit right at the ankle, and navy brogues worn without socks.  The blouse and cardigan are decidedly feminine, and the brogues add a menswear twist, as not to make the outfit too sweet.  For later, I stuck with the polka dot theme, and added a pair of light wash polka dot jeans (I am not really into the patterned jean trend, but I do really like polka dot jeans.  I just love polka dots. :)), some casual but polished gold sandals and a bright bag.  In both looks, I stuck with a skinny bottom half, since the blouse is roomy, and two generously cut pieces could add
unwanted bulk.

I love the preppiness of the gingham button up shirts that I have been seeing all over.  They are great layering pieces and are showing up in a variety of colors (I just got an orange one and a green one, and I actually have this one shown from Target!).  With a very classic khaki trench coat, adding a leopard belt and a punch of color in the red ballet flats, you can wear this shirt now and be completely comfortable on a brisk day.  I would even throw a gray cable knit sweater on over the button up, or a thick rugby striped t, if you're really into pattern mixing.  And then when the weather warms up, the shirt is lightweight enough that you can roll up the sleeves, throw on a pair of emerald green shorts and some boat shoes, and head out!  Casual, preppy cool.

I hope this gave you some ideas on how you can wear one piece throughout the year, just by changing your accessories and the way you think about layering.

Hope you're enjoying all the posts for Spring Style Week!  And if not, no worries, there's only one more day! :)  But please check back tomorrow for one more post to get you and your closet ready for warmer weather! :)
